Lockdown days

Once upon a time in a far away land I was a Headteacher. It was a job I loved very much and have always considered it one of the greatest honours of my life to have been able to lead a school. It was a job that gave me so much pleasure.....the joy and wonder of the children, the support and kindness of the parents and the friendship and humour of my colleagues. A truly wonderful career and one where the many highs greatly outweighed the occasional frustrations.

And then one day it all stopped. I had the opportunity to retire very early to a new part of the UK and surprised myself by saying yes please. The next thing I knew I found myself here in Formby on the North-West coast of England waking every morning to the sight of red squirrels in the trees and the sound of bird song. It has been a exquisite and gentle experience so far....the sun has shone, the lockdown has set a very sedate tone to our life and the sights and sounds of the dunes and beach has truly captivated me. Every day my partner Jill and I walk to the beach, soak up the views and marvel at the simplistic beauty of the place. We then started taking a pair of binoculars to try to identify the many birds we saw and heard and soon I had my camera with me and was busy taking photographs to help us identify sights back at the house. It seemed a natural progression to turn these into a blog to share the beauty of what we see and to record memories so many happy days for prosperity.

So this is my first blog as a retired person. I aspire to add them regularly but I cannot promise as I want it to be a pleasure not a chore. I hope you enjoy my ramblings and the images I share.
